Subject: What Price a Great Nation

What Price a Great Nation

"If the people of the scripture (Jews, Christians and Muslims) believeand maintain a righteous life, we will remit their sins and admit them intothe blissful Heaven. Had they observed the Torah, the Gospel, and what isrevealed herein from their Lord, they would have enjoyed provisions fromabove them and from beneath their feet. Some of them are righteous, butmost of them are evil doers." ( 5:65-66 ‘’If only the People of theBook had believed and been righteous, We should indeed have blotted outtheir iniquities and admitted them to gardens of bliss’’. If only theyhad stood fast by the Law, the Gospel, and all the revelation that was sentto them from their Lord, they would have enjoyed happiness from every side. There is from among them a party on the right course: but many of themfollow a course that is evil’’ )

"If only the people of the various communities believed and maintained a righteous life, we would have showered themwith blessings from the heaven and the earth( 7:96 ‘’If the people ofthe towns had but believed and feared Allah, We should indeed have openedout to them (All kinds of) blessings from heaven and earth; but theyrejected (the truth), and We brought them to book for their misdeeds’’) "God is the One who controls your happiness, or misery. God is the Onewho makes you rich or poor." ( 53:43 ‘’That it is He Who grantethLaughter and Tears’’ ) ( 53:48 ‘’That it is He Who giveth wealth and satisfaction’’ )

A nation that upholds God's laws is guaranteed prominence among thenations of the world, victory, prosperity, and happiness ( 10:62-64‘’Behold! verily on the friends of Allah there is no fear, nor shallthey grieve; Those who believe and (constantly) guard against evil;-. Forthem are glad tidings, in the life of the present and in the Hereafter; nochange can there be in the words of Allah. This is indeed the supremefelicity’’ ) ( 16:97 ‘’Whoever works righteousness, man or woman, and has Faith, verily, to him will We give a new Life, a life that is goodand pure and We will bestow on such their reward according to the best oftheir actions’’ ) ( 24:55 ‘’ Allah has promised, to those among you who believe and workrighteous deeds, that He will, of a surety, grant them in the land, inheritance (of power), as He granted it to those before them; that He willestablish in authority their religion - the one which He has chosen forthem; and that He will change (their state), after the fear in which they(lived), to one of security and peace: 'They will worship Me (alone) andnot associate aught with Me. 'If any do reject Faith after this, they arerebellious and wicked’’ ) And ( 41:30-31 ‘’In the case of those who say, "Our Lord is Allah",and, further, stand straight and steadfast, the angels descend on them(from time to time): "Fear ye not!" (they suggest), "Nor grieve! butreceive the Glad Tidings of the Garden (of Bliss), which ye were promised.

We are your protectors in this life and in the Hereafter: therein shall yehave all that your souls shall desire; therein shall ye have all that yeask for!-). On the other hand, a nation that violates God's laws incurs amiserable life’’ ) ( 20:124 "But whosoever turns away from My Message, verily for him is alife narrowed down, and We shall raise him up blind on the Day of Judgment").

A nation that upholds God's laws is guaranteed to be a great nation. Thisis not a mere idealistic dream; since God is in full control ( 10:61‘’In whatever business thou mayest be, and whatever portion thou mayestbe reciting from the Quran,- and whatever deed ye (mankind) may be doing,-We are witnesses thereof when ye are deeply engrossed therein. Nor ishidden from thy Lord (so much as) the weight of an atom on the earth or inheaven. And not the least and not the greatest of these things but arerecorded in a clear record’’ ), His guarantees and promises are done. Anation that upholds God's laws is characterized by:

1. Maximum freedom for the people - freedom of religion, freedom ofexpression, freedom to travel, and freedom of economy ( 2:256 ‘’ Letthere be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error:whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the mosttrustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth allthings’’ ) ( 10:99 ‘’ If it had been thy Lord's will, they wouldall have believed, - all who are on earth! wilt thou then compel mankind, against their will, to believe!’’ ) , ( 88:21-22 Therefore do thou giveadmonition, for thou art one to admonish . Thou art not one to manage(men's) affairs’’ )

2. Guaranteed human rights for all the people, regardless of their race, colour, creed, social status, financial situation, or political affiliation( 5:8 O ye who believe! stand out firmly for Allah, as witnesses to fairdealing, and let not the hatred of others to you make you swerve to wrongand depart from justice. Be just: that is next to piety: and fear Allah. For Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do ) ( 49:13 ‘’ Omankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, andmade you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that yemay despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight ofAllah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has fullknowledge and is well acquainted (with all things)’’ ) .

3. Prosperity for all the people. God's economic system is based onconstant circulation of wealth, no usury, and productive investment.Non-productive economy such as gambling, lottery, and high interest loansare not permitted ( 2:275-277 Those who devour usury will not stand exceptas stand one whom the Evil one by his touch Hath driven to madness. That isbecause they say: "Trade is like usury," but Allah hath permitted trade andforbidden usury. Those who after receiving direction from their Lord, desist, shall be pardoned for the past; their case is for Allah (to judge);but those who repeat (The offence) are companions of the Fire: They willabide therein (for ever). Allah will deprive usury of all blessing, butwill give increase for deeds of charity: For He loveth not creaturesungrateful and wicked. Those who believe, and do deeds of righteousness, and establish regular prayers and regular charity, will have their rewardwith their Lord: on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve’’ ) ( 59:7 ‘’What Allah has bestowed on His Messenger (and taken away)from the people of the townships,- belongs to Allah,- to His Messenger andto kindred and orphans, the needy and the wayfarer; In order that it maynot (merely) make a circuit between the wealthy among you. So take what theMessenger assigns to you, and deny yourselves that which he withholds fromyou. And fear Allah; for Allah is strict in Punishment’’ ) .

4. Social justice for all. Because of the obligatory charity (Zakat), noone will go hungry or un-sheltered ( 2:215 ‘’They ask thee what theyshould spend (In charity). Say: Whatever ye spend that is good, is forparents and kindred and orphans and those in want and for wayfarers. Andwhatever ye do that is good, -Allah knoweth it well’’ ) ( 70:24-25 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. For the(needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking) ( 107:1-7 ‘’Seest thou one who denies the Judgment (to come)?. Thensuch is the (man) who repulses the orphan (with harshness), And encouragesnot the feeding of the indigent. So woe to the worshippers. Who areneglectful of their prayers, Those who (want but) to be seen (of men), Butrefuse (to supply) (even) neighbourly needs’’ ) .

5. A political system that is based on unanimous consensus. Through mutualconsultation and freedom of expression, one side of any given issueconvinces all participants in the discussion. The end result is a unanimousagreement, not the opinion of a 51% majority rammed down the throat of the49% minority ( 42:38 ‘’Those who hearken to their Lord, and establishregular Prayer; who (conduct) their affairs by mutual Consultation; whospend out of what We bestow on them for Sustenance’’ ) .

6. A society that upholds and maintains the highest standards of moralbehaviour. There will be a strong family, no alcoholism, no illicit drugs,no illegitimate pregnancies, no abortions, and practically no divorce.

7. Maximum regard for people's lives and properties. Therefore, there willbe no crime against the people's lives or properties.

8. Prevalence of love, courtesy, peace, and mutual respect among thepeople, and between this nation and other world communities ( 3:110‘’Ye are the best of peoples, evolved for mankind, enjoining what isright, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah. If only the Peopleof the Book had faith, it were best for them: among them are some who havefaith, but most of them are perverted transgressors’’ ) and ( 60:8-9‘’Allah forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for(your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly andjustly with them: for Allah loveth those who are just. Allah only forbidsyou, with regard to those who fight you for (your) Faith, and drive you outof your homes, and support (others) in driving you out, from turning tothem (for friendship and protection). It is such as turn to them (in thesecircumstances), that do wrong’’ ) .

9. Environmental protection is guaranteed through conservation andprohibition of wasteful practices ( 30:41 ‘’Mischief has appeared onland and sea because of (the meed) that the hands of men have earned, that(Allah) may give them a taste of some of their deeds: in order that theymay turn back (from Evil)’’ ) .
